On which level should i place my associations

Hello, On which layer would you advice to place the associations? Lets say i have 4 levels: 1. connectivity layer (only connections + base views) 2. Integration layer (simple combinations of base views) 3. Business Entities layer 4. Presentation layer On all 4 layers they COULD be used? But is it smart to do? Would it become an overkill if you place them on all layers? Or would Business Entities layer or presentation layer be enough? Thank in advance.

Hi, I have found it is useful to keep associations in their own folder. The Knowledge Base Article [VDP Naming Conventions](https://community.denodo.com/kb/view/document/VDP Naming Conventions?category=Operation) reviews naming conventions and suggested folder structure. Hope this helps!

Hello Denodo team, Thank you for referring to this "suggested folder structure" but it did not answer my questions. Are the assocations needed on ALL layers or would 1 of the layers be enough? Please read the question i've send again. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I'd suggest placing associations on base and derived views, as it is helpful both in terms of performance and usability. The Knowledge Base article on [Associations in Denodo](https://community.denodo.com/kb/view/document/Best%20Practices%20to%20Maximize%20Performance%20II:%20Configuring%20the%20Query%20Optimizer?category=Best+Practices) goes over these benefits. More information is found in the Knowledge Base article [Best Practices to Maximize Performance II: Configuring the Query Optimizer](https://community.denodo.com/kb/view/document/Best%20Practices%20to%20Maximize%20Performance%20II%3A%20Configuring%20the%20Query%20Optimizer?category=Best+Practices) section “Between which views should I create associations?” Hope this helps.
