How is the export properties file generated?

Working on automating a process of exporting a folder and its contents from one VDB and importing into another. We currently use the UI to export a folder and properties file then import to another VDB. The export tool will create a VQL and properties file if a full database backup is desired. It does not appear to generate a properties file for anything else. Nor will it generate a single VQL file for a specific VDB folder, only a reposatory. Even with a reposatory there does not appear to be a properties file generated. Using the DESC VQL FOLDER command we can get the VQL for a folder and its contents but are not seeing a way to get the properties file. Is there a way to generate the properties file manually? Is there another option that can be passed to the export tool allowing a folder and contents to be exported to a single file?

Hi, To Export the Properties file from Virtual DataPort for the database. I would do the following steps * In Virtual DataPort, right click on the Database and click on the ‘Export’. * In the Export page, provide the output file path and enable the ‘Export environment specific properties separately’. * Now I was able to see the properties file and VQL file separately in the above mentioned file location. The above steps are similar for the view, folder and environment to export the properties file separately. For more information, you can refer [Exporting the Server Metadata]( section of the Virtual DataPort Administration Guide. In general, to export the metadata from one Virtual DataPort to another Virtual DataPort, I would prefer to use the Solution Manager Administration Tool by creating the Server and revision to deploy from one environment to another environment. To get more information related to the Solution Manager you can refer to the documentation [Creating Servers]( and [Promotions ]( ) section of the Solution Manager Administration Guide. Hope this helps!

Hello, We already know how to do this with VDP. We specifically want to do this from the command line so it can be automated and hands off. While we have administrator rights on a couple of VDBs, we do not have any higher rights on the Denodo server.

Hi, You can export the Properties file from Virtual DataPort using Export Script. The Export script will generate the two file one is the VQL Statement of all the elements of the database and properties file that contains the values of the variables. To export the file from Virtual, I would do the below steps * Open the Command Prompt as administrator and navigate the path to “<DENODO_HOME>\bin” . * After setting the path, execute the similar command ``` export --login <login> [ --password <password> ] [ --configurationfile <filename> ] --server [//]<host>:[<port>][/<database name>] [ --nobom ] [ --itponly ] { --file <filename> | --repository <path to repository> [ { --element <path to element> | --repository-element <identifier path> } ]* } [ --singleuser ] [ -P <property name>=<property value> ]* ``` Please note that, to export the properties files pass the parameter as below **-P includeProperties=yes** . For more information, you can refer to the documentation [Export Script]( and [Export to a File with Properties]( section of the Virtual DataPort Administration Guide. Hope this helps!
