Why am I getting an "Error obtaining license" error on Denodo Express?

Getting an error on my CENTOS 7 install of Denodo 8.0 Express. Dunno why I am getting a license error. I placed a denodo.lic file (originally called denodo-express-lic-70-202012.lic) in the conf folder after I finished the installation. The full error is below: 9921 [main] ERROR 2020-12-07T18:51:14.670 com.denodo.solutionmanager.Info [] - Error obtaining license (1/3). Retrying in 5000 ms. Hello, Are you using the Solution Manager? If so, you have to install the license in the Solution Manager server, [Register the Denodo Servers in the License Manager](https://community.denodo.com/docs/html/browse/7.0/platform/installation/postinstallation_tasks/register_server_in_solution_manager/register_server_in_solution_manager#register-the-denodo-servers-in-the-license-manager) and [Create a Server](https://community.denodo.com/docs/html/browse/7.0/solution_manager/administration/servers/creating_servers/creating_servers) in the Solution Manager If you are using a stand alone license for evaluation purposes you can apply the license directly in the DENODO_HOME\conf directory with the steps you mentioned above. Hope this helps.

I ended up just reinstalling the entire thing but this time I entered the license file during the installation. I ended up getting a different error message though. It's really strange though, I just used that same license file on a Windows installation and it worked just fine. Seems that the Linux version is a bit finnicky. 2837 [main] INFO 2020-12-08T21:51:25.383 server.start [] - Starting Denodo Platform 8.0 20200910 - Process owner: root - Operating system: Linux (amd64) - OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.8+10) - OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.8+10, mixed mode) 7343 [main] INFO 2020-12-08T21:51:29.889 server.start [] - TLS is disabled on incoming connections 9157 [main] FATAL 2020-12-08T21:51:31.703 com.denodo.vdb.util.InternalError [] - Internal Error: Invalid license version 9157 [main] FATAL 2020-12-08T21:51:31.703 com.denodo.vdb.util.InternalError [] - Internal Error 9157 [main] ERROR 2020-12-08T21:51:31.703 com.denodo.vdb.vdbinterface.server.VDBManagerImpl [] - Invalid license version 9158 [main] ERROR 2020-12-08T21:51:31.704 com.denodo.util.logging.JavaConsoleLogging [] - Unexpected error. ~

Hello. Be sure that you are using a Denodo license for the version of Denodo Express you are installing. If you are installing a Denodo Express 8.0 you need a Denodo license file for 8.0. You can find installers and license files in https://community.denodo.com/express/ Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I swapped out the file for the Denodo 8.0 license file on the /conf folder and restarted the server but I am still getting the same error. Is there something I need to do to get Denodo Express to acknowledge the new file? Thanks in advance!

Hi, In order to install the Denodo Platform express in the Linux Operating system, I would follow the steps mentioned in the [Using the Command Line Installer](https://community.denodo.com/docs/html/browse/latest/platform/installation/using_the_command_line_installer/using_the_command_line_installer) section of the Denodo Platform Installation Guide. Even after performing all steps as mentioned in the above document, if I get the "Invalid license version", I would make sure that Denodo License file are renamed correctly(i.e., **denodo. lic**) and place it in the **<DENODO_HOME>\conf** directory. In order to get more information about the root cause, I would change the "com.denodo" log level to Debug in the log4j2.xml located at <DENODO_HOME>\conf\launcher and check the** denodo-launcher.log** file located in the <DENODO_HOME>\logs\launcher. Hope this helps!
