USER MANUALS

Categories

Your company’s data infrastructure can handle a large number of views and web services. To make it easy to find the right element for your data need, the Data Catalog allows you to organize all your elements using categories. A category represents a group of views and web services that are related to each other according to some criteria. You can define subcategories inside a category, and make the classification more specific.

To start browsing your views and web services by categories, go to Browse > Categories. The sidebar shows the hierarchical structure of categories. Expand a category to explore its subcategories. Click a category and access to its details.

Browsing by categories

In the Summary tab you will find the name of its parent category and a description. In the Views and Web services tabs you can explore all the elements that belong to the category.

Note

If the option “Show the elements belonging to the selected category or any of its subcategories” is enabled in Administration > Personalization, the elements belonging to any of the subcategories of the categories selected will also be shown.

If you have the proper permissions, you will be able to edit this information. Use the edit icon next to each field to update its value. Click the Assign category button and access to a new page where you can change the set of views and web services that are members of the category.

Notice that you can filter the categories shown in the sidebar. Under the Filter categories title you have a search bar. Type some query terms on it and press ENTER (or click the search icon).

Note

When you are browsing by categories, the Data Catalog shows you the elements stored in its metadata. If there were changes in Virtual DataPort since the last time the Data Catalog was synchronized, these changes will not be reflected.
