Databases¶
Virtual DataPort uses a simple structure of databases and folders to organize its elements. The administrator of the Virtual DataPort defines a set of databases and may define a hierarchical structure of folders inside it. The users then create views and web services in a database and place them inside a folder. According to this classification, a view or web service belongs to a unique database and to a unique folder inside it.
Note
Although this organization in databases and folders provides a logical structure for your data, it is intended to address the management needs of Virtual DataPort users. It may not suit your discovery needs.
To start browsing by databases and folders go to Browse > Databases / Folders. You will see the set of databases on the sidebar.
On the sidebar, you can expand a database and navigate through its folders. Expand a folder and discover its views, its web services ant also its subfolders. If you click a view or a web service, you will see its details page.
You can filter the elements shown in the sidebar. Under the Database title you have a search bar. Type some query terms on it and press ENTER (or click the icon). The sidebar will list only those elements that match with the query. Take into account that the search only filters on the elements of those databases that have been previously expanded.
Note
Notice that when you are browsing by databases and folders, you are obtaining real-time data from Virtual DataPort. It may be different from the data you get when browsing by categories or tags, which comes from the metadata stored in the Data Catalog during the last synchronization.
