Differences between Agora and Self-Managed Instances

This page lists the main feature differences between deployed Agora Denodo Platform and self-managed Denodo Platform instances. The majority of these relate to Denodo Platform configuration since Agora automates most configuration steps for the user.

Common differences

  • Authentication configuration is disabled for all web applications and SSO is automatically configured by Agora.

  • User and password authentication is disabled for all web applications in Agora.

  • External metadata database configuration is disabled in all components as Agora automatically provisions and configures an external metadata database for Agora Virtual DataPort, Data Catalog and Scheduler instances.

Design Studio

  • SSO related configuration in Administration > Server Configuration > Security is disabled in Agora.

  • Options related to the creation, modification and deletion of users and roles is also disabled in the platform, as management of roles and users is done via the Agora console.

  • Server connectivity configuration is disabled in Agora.

  • FILE privilege configuration is disabled in Agora.

  • Bulk data load is disabled for the following databases in Agora:

    • Oracle

    • Microsoft SQL Server

    • IBM DB2

    • Yellowbrick

    • Denodo Embedded MPP

  • Automatic summary recommendations are disabled in Agora.

Scheduler

  • The Scheduler Index is disabled in Agora.

  • Server Ports and Threads Pool configurations are disabled in Agora.

Data Catalog

  • VDP Server configuration is disabled in Agora.

  • Scheduler Index Server is also disabled in Agora.

  • Metadata search in Agora is disabled as it relies on the Scheduler Index.

  • Content search global parameters are disabled in Agora.

  • Options to configure Azure OpenAI are disabled in Agora.

Diagnostic & Monitoring Tool

  • Load Diagnostic Info options are disabled as Monitor logs are stored in S3 in Agora by default.

Solution Manager

  • Environments are automatically monitored as soon as the services are up in Agora.

  • Deployments always have the shared metadata option enabled by default, Agora automatically provisions and configures an external metadata database for Virtual DataPort, Data Catalog and Scheduler.

  • The REST API is not available in Agora.

  • There is a new option to choose the auto scaling strategy when creating a cluster in Agora.

  • The following sections are disabled in Agora:

    • Version control system configuration - Since there is no backup for cloud deployments it is not necessary in Agora.

    • Solution Manager database configuration - Agora automatically provisions and configures an external metadata database for the Solution Manager.

    • Automated mode configuration (renamed to Execution Plane Info):

      • AWS Credentials Access Keys - AWS access keys are not supported in Agora. Agora users must configure an IAM role to operate in their AWS account. The selected IAM role is displayed here.

      • IAM Role & Logging & Updates - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • Server Access - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • Default Region & Images - Automatically managed based on the cloud provider region selected in Agora.

    • Authentication configuration - Automatically managed by Agora.

    • Role Management configuration - User and Role configuration is done through Agora’s console.

    • User Management configuration - User and Role configuration is done through Agora’s console.

    • Monitoring configuration - Automatically managed by Agora.

    • Environment configuration:

      • Monitoring - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • Recommended update - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • URL of the recommended update - Automatically managed by Agora.

    • Cluster global configuration:

      • TLS Configuration - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • Advanced options - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • Configuration of the My Applications Panel - Automatically managed by Agora.

    • Cluster instances configuration (VDP, Data Catalog and Scheduler):

      • Load Balancing & Auto Scaling:

        • Load Balancer Name - Automatically managed by Agora.

        • Load Balancer DNS - Automatically managed by Agora.

        • Auto Scaling Group Name - Automatically managed by Agora.

      • Advanced Options:

        • AMI - Automatically managed by Agora.

        • Security Groups - Automatically managed by Agora.

        • Security Group Name - Automatically managed by Agora.

        • Instance Name Prefix - Automatically managed by Agora.

    • Active monitors - Not necessary since all environments are automatically monitored in Agora.

    • Server details:

      • Button to access server application - Disabled with the exception of the Diagnostic & Monitoring Tool.

      • Info button - Info button showing instance properties is disabled.

    • Overview:

      • Install Denodo update - Update installation is done through Agora.
