The Schema tab contains information about the fields of the view.

The Schema tab shows information about the fields of the view

For each field, it provides:

  • PK. The icon key is showed if the field is a primary key.

  • Its name.

  • Its logical name. This column is only visible when the configuration option Allow logical names for view fields is enabled. If you have the proper permissions, you can edit the logical name clicking its edit icon.

  • Its type.

  • Its assigned tags. To navigate to the details of a tag, just click its name. This column is only visible when there are VDP tags imported.

  • A description in plain text. At first, it is obtained from Virtual DataPort. However, if you have the proper permissions, you will see a edit icon next to the description. Click it and define a new description, which will be specific to the Data Catalog.

  • Nullable. The icon check is showed if the field can be null.

Optionally, three additional columns related to the native datasource field type can be displayed if “Additional columns” is checked.

  • Source Type. The type of the field in the source. E.g. VARCHAR, NCHAR, INTEGER, BIGINT, etc.

  • Type Size. Its meaning depends on the type of the field.

    • For fields of type text, it indicates the maximum length of the field.

    • For numeric types, the maximum precision.

    • For values without decimals (int and long), this number is 0.

  • Type Decimals. The number of decimals for fields of type decimal, 0 otherwise.

Note

This tab shows the current schema in Virtual DataPort, but if a description was modified for a field in Data Catalog this description will be shown. Only synchronized fields can be edited.

If changes are made in Virtual DataPort after you have logged in, you may need to reload the browser or start a new session in order to the changes to take effect as this information is cached in the web application.
