Summary of External Elements¶
The Summary pill contains all the basic information about the current external element.

This information consists of:
A preview image when the external element is a report. It is important to emphasize that the current user must have

privileges in the Virtual Dataport in all the views related with this external element. Also no row restrictions nor tag policy must exist in any of these views. In case that the external element contains external data sources theVisualize external data
permission is mandatory to visualize the image.A Description about the external element. At first, it is obtained from the external tool server. However, if you have the proper permissions, you will see a
icon next to the description. Click it and define a new description, which will be specific to the Data Catalog.
The Data Catalog can have its own description for an external element, in plain text or HTML¶
An Original description about the external element. This is obtained from the external tool server and cannot be changed.
The specific attributes for this external element grouped in collapsible sections: Data insights, Roles and Metadata.
The categories the external element belongs to. If you are allowed to assign categories you will see the option Actions > Add Category in the header. Click it to edit the categories.

The people who endorsed this external element. Users can write comments on external elements to show their support. The Endorsements section displays each endorsement along with its author. You can edit your own comment by clicking
. Depending on your permissions, you may also be able to edit other people’s comments.
The people who warned against this external element. In the same way that users can support external elements by writing endorsements, they can advise against them writing warnings. The Warnings section displays each warning along with its author. You can edit your own comment by clicking
. Depending on your permissions, you may also be able to edit other people’s comments.
In addition, an administrator of the Data Catalog can add custom properties to the external element to improve the information you have about it. If they are configured to appear in the Summary pill, you will see a collapsible section for each group of custom properties. With the proper permissions, you will find a
icon next to each custom property to edit it.
