This quick start guide will give you an overview of the Denodo Platform and how to quickly start building data virtualization solutions on AWS.

The 14 day free trial offers the flexibility of instantiating the Denodo Free Trial AMI under Customer's AWS account. Therefore it is expected that you already have an AWS account that you can use to logon to the AWS Marketplace.
Thereafter, you can search, create and launch the Denodo Free Trial instance through the EC2 console.
You are responsible for operating your own AWS account. You can create and launch your Denodo Platform for AWS BYOL instance using that AWS Account. Log on to the AWS Marketplace, search for the Denodo Platform for AWS listing you prefer, and launch the instance through the EC2 Console.
After launching the instance the following activities must be performed in the instance:
You can obtain your 14 days free trial license registering through the following page clicking on the START FREE TRIAL button for the Free Trial using your AWS account option.
After the registration a 14 day Denodo Platform license will be available for you.
Once the Denodo Platform for AWS BYOL instance is running you have to log in Windows as Administrator user through a Remote Desktop Connection. Detailed instructions are available on https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/WindowsGuide/connecting_to_windows_instance.html
Once connected as administrator user you have to complete the following tasks:
After completing these steps for activating the denodo user, then you can log out as Administrator and use Remote Desktop Connection to log in to the Windows instance using the denodo user and the password you set.
Once you have a Denodo Platform license file, log in the Denodo Platform for AWS BYOL instance through Remote Desktop Connection with the denodo user.
Copy the Denodo Platform license file to the AWS instance, rename it as denodo.lic, and save it in the C:\Denodo\DenodoPlatform7.0\conf directory. The appropriate license is checked out after starting the Denodo VDP server.
Logged in as the denodo user through Remote Desktop Connection and once a Denodo Platform license is installed you can start enjoying Denodo Platform.
You have to launch the Denodo Platform Control Center that allows starting and stopping all Denodo Platform servers and tools, as well as a group of additional functions.
Through the Denodo Platform Control Center you can start the Virtual DataPort (VDP) server and then launch the Virtual DataPort Administration Tool to connect to VDP server.
Denodo VDP default administrator user is admin with admin as default password. You should change the administrator password as soon as possible to ensure that you are operating under a secure environment.

Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) presents a true virtual computing environment, allowing customers to use web service interfaces to launch instances with a variety of operating systems, load them with a custom application environment, manage network access permissions, and run an image using as many or few systems as desired. Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace is an online store that makes it easy for customers to find, compare, and immediately start using the software and services that run on the AWS Cloud that they need to build products and run their businesses. Visitors to the marketplace can use AWS Marketplace’s 1-Click deployment to quickly launch pre-configured software and pay only for what they use, by the hour or month. AWS handles billing and payments, and software charges appear on customers’ AWS bill.
Literally any organization of any size can use and benefit from the Denodo Platform for AWS.
Any customer eligible to use AWS products is also able to shop on AWS Marketplace. Customers must have an Amazon EC2 account.
No. The software listed in AWS Marketplace is only available to run on Amazon EC2. It is not available for download.
Denodo will deliver updates for the Denodo Platform for AWS in two ways:
If you are using a Denodo Platform for AWS AMI product that has an hourly or annual license fee, you will be billed by AWS for your use of this software. You will receive a bill for the software at the same time that you receive your monthly AWS infrastructure bill.
Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) lets customers provision a logically isolated section of the AWS Cloud where AWS resources may be launched in a virtual network that the customer defines. The customer has complete control over the virtual networking environment, including selection of IP address range, creation of subnets, and configuration of route tables and network gateways. Customers can also create a Hardware Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection between a corporate datacenter and a VPC and leverage the AWS cloud as an extension of the corporate datacenter.
Amazon CloudWatch is a web service that provides monitoring for AWS cloud resources and applications, starting with Amazon EC2. It provides customers with visibility into resource utilization, operational performance, and overall demand patterns – including metrics such as CPU utilization, disk reads and writes, and network traffic. Customers can get statistics, view graphs, and set alarms for metric data. Amazon CloudWatch aggregates and stores monitoring data that can be accessed using web service APIs or Command Line Tools.
Enhanced Networking enables customers to get significantly higher packet per second (PPS) performance, lower network jitter, and lower latencies. This feature uses a new network virtualization stack that provides higher I/O performance and lower CPU utilization compared to traditional implementations.
Denodo can run in any type of AWS instance and the best option may be different depending on your use case and workload pattern. Nevertheless, most people run Denodo in AWS general purpose instances (type M) and we recommend using at least m4.xlarge or m5.xlarge instances for production workloads.
Denodo internal lab tests also show significant performance improvements when using m4.4xlarge or m5.4xlarge instances, so if your budget permits it, you should consider them. Using more powerful options (e.g. m4.10xlarge , m5.10xlarge) can also be beneficial for some workloads, but in our tests the improvements when using Denodo are less pronounced.
