Goal

This document aims to describe how Denodo Virtual DataPort (VDP) can be accessed from SAP Analytics Cloud via OData Interface.

Content

SAP Analytics Cloud is a single cloud solution for business intelligence, enterprise planning and predictive analytics. To write this document, SAP Analytics Cloud 2021.23.3 has been used.

Connecting SAP Analytics Cloud using the OData Service

Create a new OData connection

  • Login to SAP Analytics Cloud and click on the Connections option from the main menu.  In the Connections tab, click on the ‘+’ icon to add a new connection.

  • From the Select a data source window, expand Acquire Data and select the OData Services from the list. Use this data source type to connect to new OData Services using a generic OData driver.

  • In the New OData Services Connection dialog, enter the following details:
  • Connection Name: Provide a name to the connection.
  • Description: Optional description of the connection
  • Data Service URL: Enter the Denodo OData Endpoint. Since the OData endpoint is specific to a Virtual Database, we have to create a source for each database of the Virtual DataPort Server.

  • Authentication Type: Choose Basic Authentication and provide a username and password that has access to the Odata 4 service. You could also use OAuth 2.0 Authentication if you have configured OAuth at the Virtual Dataport Server.

  • Choose Create.
  • The new connection is added to the list of connections on the Connections screen.

Creating a workflow with SAP Analytics Cloud

Once the connection is successfully configured, Navigate to Datasets.

Click on From a Data Source and select the data source from Acquire Data > OData Services.

To create a dataset from OData Services, you could use an existing connection or create a new one by clicking on Create New Connection.

Note: For creating a new connection, you could refer to the Import Data Connection using OData Services section for detailed steps.

Select the connection created on the previous step and click on Next.

This will then connect to Denodo via OData and list the available views in the Virtual Database configured.

Select the view displayed in the window and click on Next.

To retrieve all the columns of the table, select the option Select entire table and click on Create.

The next screen will have a prompt to choose the location inside the cloud where you want to store this dataset. Once you have selected the location click OK.

After this, the process of importing the data would begin.

On Successful import, you should see the data of the selected view.

Save the imported data before exiting the page.

Finally, in the Datasets page, you can see the new Query.
