Introduction

DBeaver is a free, SQL client tool for database administrators and analysts. Supporting a whole range of popular databases, the software now supports a direct connection between itself and Denodo Platform 8.0.

With DBeaver, users can create analytical reports based on different storages, export information, monitor database sessions, migrate schemas and data and much more.

This document is a step by step guide on how to successfully achieve this connection. DBeaver 21.3.5 or later is required.

Configuring DBeaver and Adding a Denodo Data Source

The connection between DBeaver and the Denodo Platform can be considered straightforward as the only requirement to keep in mind is which version of each software you are using. For this demonstration, we will be using DBeaver 24.0.0.

It is also important to have the latest update from Denodo as these will bring enhancements and security fixes.

  1. Open DBeaver Universal Database Manager.

  1. To create a new connection, click in File > New and a Select Wizard Pop Up window will appear, in which you should select the DBeaver folder.

  1. From the list of options available, select “Database Connection”, that shall bring you to a new window with a new list of choices.

  1. From the menu on the left, press “All” and scroll down until you see Denodo 8 and click on “Next”.

At this stage, DBeaver is retrieving the latest updated connector from the Denodo site. If your intent is to connect to older Denodo Platform versions, you can refer to the bottom of this article, where you will find guidance on which additional steps to take.

  1. You will be now prompted to fill in all the connection details between you and the JDBC datasource in Denodo. For this example, we are connecting to our local host.

  1. Once you click “Finish”, the connection configuration will be saved.

  1. In order to test the connection, right click on the newly created database connection and click “Edit Connection”. Now press “Test Connection” at the bottom left corner to make sure your connection is working before saving it. If so, press finish.

You have now successfully connected to Denodo from DBeaver and are ready to use the platform!

Connecting to older Denodo Platform versions

If you are trying to connect to previous Denodo Platform versions, have in mind that the driver needs to be added manually. To do this, download the driver for the version that you are trying to connect to and during step number 5, click in Edit Driver Settings > Libraries and Add File.
