Datadog is a popular monitoring and analytics platform you can use to monitor Denodo. In order to use Datadog you will need to set up custom integrations and configure specific metrics and alerts. This document will deal primarily with using Datadog to monitor Denodo logs.

Install the Datadog client

To monitor Denodo, you'll need to install the Datadog Agent on the server(s) where Denodo is running. Follow the installation instructions for your specific server operating system from the Datadog documentation. In this example we will install the agent on an AWS EC2 instance using the operating system Amazon Linux with the Denodo Platform already installed.

Note the command will add linux packages so you will need to run as sudo. You will get a message that Datadog Agent is running when done:

After installing the agent go to the menu Infrastructure > Infrastructure List to show your new host:

Click on host to see the ‘Metrics’ tab with specific metrics about the host:

Capture Denodo logs with Datadog

Let’s monitor the log generated by the VDP Server.

  1. Go to the menu Logs > Getting Started or
  2. Chose Server then ‘Custom Files’:

  1. Enable logs to be collected by Datadog and restart agent:

  • sudo vi /etc/datadog-agent/datadog.yaml
  • logs_enabled: true
  • sudo service datadog-agent stop
  • sudo service datadog-agent start
  1. Collect logs from custom files
  • Path: <DENODO_HOME>/logs/vdp/vdp.log
  • Service: vdp-server
  • Source: denodo-platform

        For example:

  1. Per directions, on VDP Server
  • cd /etc/datadog-agent/conf.d
  • sudo mkdir denodo-vdp-server.d
  • cd denodo-vdp-server.d
  • sudo vi conf.yaml
  • Paste in yaml data from web UI and save.

  1. Error messages will show in tab Logs.
