Goal

This document describes how to configure the Denodo Virtual DataPort Server to allow remote connections.

When the connection between clients and the Virtual DataPort server is established through a firewall, the firewall must be configured to allow the connections to the ports used in the connection, for instance, for RMI the RMI registry and factory ports.

 

Any change in the configuration of these parameters will take effect after the Virtual DataPort server is restarted.

The following configuration settings need to be taken into account depending on the Denodo version:

Denodo 8.0

  • Port configuration. Available by clicking on the  “Administration > Server configuration” menu and then on “Server connectivity” from the VDP Administration Tool:

  • VDP configuration:
  • Server Port Number (9999): port for the Administration Tool, JDBC clients and clients using the Virtual DataPort API.
  • Shutdown Port Number (9998): port used for the shutdown to be available from remote servers.
  • Monitoring Port Number (9997): JMX monitoring port.
  • Auxiliary Port Number (9995): JMX monitoring port.
  • ODBC Port Number (9996): port where the server listens to ODBC connections.

  • Embedded Web container Port configuration:
  • Web Container HTTP Port Number (9090): port where the embedded Web Container listens to connections.
  • Web Container Shutdown Port Number (9099): port used for the shutdown to be available from remote servers.
  • Web Container JMX Port Number(9098): port used for JMX.
  • Auxiliary Web Container Port Number (9097): auxiliary Web Container port.

  • Network interface where the VDP Server listens to connections. Available from the Denodo Control Center, opening the “Configure” panel, clicking on the “JVM Options” button and modifying the values of the “RMI Host” tab.

  • RMI host (localhost): if the server computer provides several network interfaces, the interface that is visible to the clients must be specified in this parameter (as an IP address or a hostname).

  • Port configuration. Available by clicking on the  “Administration > Server configuration” menu and then on “Server connectivity” from the VDP Administration Tool:

  • VDP configuration:
  • RMI Registry Port Number (9999): port where the server listens to RMI connections from the Administration Tool, JDBC clients and clients using the Virtual DataPort API.
  • Shutdown Port Number (9998): port used for the shutdown to be available from remote servers.
  • RMI Factory Port Number (9997): port used for the communication between the VDP Server and clients with RMI connections.
  • ODBC Port Number (9996): port where the server listens to ODBC connections.

  • Embedded Web container Port configuration:
  • Web Container HTTP Port Number (9090): port where the embedded Web Container listens to connections.
  • Web Container Shutdown Port Number (9099): port used for the shutdown to be available from remote servers.
  • Web Container JMX Port Number(9098): port used for JMX.
  • Auxiliary Web Container Port Number (9097): auxiliary Web Container port.
