When the cache server goes down for any reason, the behavior of the VQL queries executed on cached views will depend on the cache mode enabled on the views:
- If the cache mode enabled is Partial, the query will return results but, instead of getting the data from the cache, the data will be obtained directly from the data sources.
- If the cache mode enabled is Full, the query will throw an error as the cache database is down and Full mode is intended to make sure that the data source is never queried unless indicated in an explicit way.
For Partial mode, when the data should come from the cache but the cache server is down, error messages will be written to the VDP server log files in order to inform the system administrator that the cache server is failing even though the queries are working on getting the data from the data sources.
