The caching of connections is independent of the data caching.  The property "Cached connection" in the execution trace indicates that the JDBC/ODBC connection used to retrieve data from a data source is a reused connection from a previous execution. By default, the JDBC and ODBC data sources use a pool of connections to avoid opening new connections on each request.
