Course content
Denodo architectures need to be fully-performance. This course will talk about the internal details of the Denodo Optimizer to learn how to maximize the performance of the queries sent by consumers.
Note: This course uses Denodo 9. If you work with Denodo 8.0, you might be interested in the course Denodo Performance Best Practices
This course has been updated with the Denodo Platform 9.4.
Prerequisites
Previous experience with Denodo Platform. It's recommended to complete the Implementing my First Logical Data Integration course before enrolling in this course.
Duration
- Instructor-led: 12 hours (1.5 training days)
- On-demand: 6 hours
Topics
- Denodo Query Optimizer: Trace the life of a VQL query and understand the core differences between static and dynamic query optimization techniques.
- Primary Keys in Denodo: Learn the vital role and proper configuration of primary keys within Denodo to maintain data integrity and optimize overall query execution.
- Query Delegation to Data Sources: Understand query delegation concepts and see how pushing execution directly down to underlying data sources drastically minimizes data transfer.
- Automatic Simplification of Queries: Explore automated optimization strategies in action, including join reordering, join type alterations, and full or partial aggregation push-downs.
- Removing Redundant Branches of Queries: Master branch pruning techniques in both union and join operations to eliminate unnecessary processing paths and boost execution speed.
- Selecting the Most Optimal Source: Learn how to leverage union-join push-downs and alternative wrappers to dynamically route queries to the most efficient underlying data source.
- Cost Based Optimization: Understand the fundamentals of Cost-Based Optimization (CBO), gather execution statistics, and analyze how the optimizer selects the most efficient execution plan.
- Data Movement: Discover cross-source data movement techniques, view real-world execution flows, and configure bulk data loads for handling large datasets.
- Smart Query Acceleration: Learn how to create and configure summary views, understand acceleration mechanics under the hood, and apply best practices along with automatic recommendations.
- Denodo Lakehouse Accelerator: Explore the architecture and operational benefits of using the Denodo Lakehouse Accelerator to supercharge complex analytical queries.
- Cache: Evaluate when to use caching, select the right caching engine database and cache modes, co-locate storage with data sources, and handle index creation and cache maintenance.
- Memory Management: Differentiate between streaming and non-streaming operations and configure system memory options to safely maximize processing efficiency under heavy workloads.
- Detecting Bottlenecks: Apply a structured troubleshooting methodology to identify performance bottlenecks, diagnose root causes, and execute strategic guidelines to solve them.
- Resource Manager: Learn how to use the Denodo Resource Manager to create execution plans and allocation rules that govern system workloads and safely limit query results.
