Europe works on sustainable progress, pushing for a cleaner, greener environment. Your challenge is to combine different datasets to fully grasp the sources, trends, and patterns of better air quality. While you have the liberty to analyze any number of countries, it’s advisable to concentrate on those that are most pertinent to our objectives; nations that highlight on exploiting renewable energies and enhancing air quality.
Dive deep to:
- Carefully integrate the provided datasets, addressing disparities in data structures, formats, and units to create a unified foundation. Use Denodo Express.
- Combine the integrated data to achieve a unified view of Europe’s energy landscape, considering the unique and relevant attributes of each dataset. Use Denodo Express.
- Identify possible relations between Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the use of renewable energies as a primary energy source, and the share of electricity generated from renewable resources. Use PowerBI Desktop.
- Utilize advanced data visualization techniques from interactive graphs to detailed maps and insightful diagrams to present and share your findings. Use PowerBI Desktop.
These are some questions that can guide your analysis:
- Which EU countries have shown the most significant progress in emissions reduction over the last decade?
- Does the increase in the use of renewable energies relate to the improvement in air quality across different countries? If so, how?
Datasets
- Source: OurWorldInData
Dataset detailing the global reliance on renewable energy sources for electricity generation. This dataset illustrates the international trajectory towards sustainable energy practices.
- Source: Eurostat
Statistical data about the emissions of greenhouse gasses across European countries. Offers an in-depth view of the environmental impact and trends within the European region.
To assist with combining information from Our World in Data and Eurostat databases, it is recommended to download the following dataset
Deep Breath
We encourage you to also explore Eurostat and Our World in Data (or any other source with public information) to find more data on initiatives that member states have implemented to improve air quality.
This iteration is open for you to research more information apart from the datasets provided in “Light Breath” iteration. These questions can be used as a guide in the research but you are encouraged the ask and answer your own questions:
- Which nations lead the transition towards electricity from renewable sources, and what tactics or policies have they implemented to achieve these feats?
- Based on the analyzed databases, what other efforts have contributed to significant improvements in air quality in certain countries?
Below are some examples of additional databases that might be of interest:
Deliverables
The submission of the findings and conclusions must contain:
- Denodo VQL exported from the Denodo Express.
- Power BI (.pbix) with the reports and analysis done.
- Slides with details of the implementation: Maximum of 5 slides to show the process:
- Data Integration and Management in Denodo
- Data Treatment and Visualization in PowerBI
- Link to the additional sources used and explanation of the reasons for being selected.
- Conclusions obtained.
- Video explanation of the slides (2-3 minutes)
- Source code or script (if any)
